何よりも興奮したのはレッドカーペットに登場した大勢のスターたち！　約2時間半にわたったレッドカーペットには、大作から小規模な作品まで、本当に多くのセレブたちが訪れていましたが、その中で私は大好きな女優の一人で、『アルバート・ノッブス』で主演女優賞にノミネートしたグレン・クローズにインタビューする機会を得ました。そこで、彼女にどの作品を応援したいか聞いてみたところ、彼女は自身の主演作である『アルバート・ノッブス』が彼女にとっていかに思い入れの強い作品かということを語りつつ「全ての映画とドラマを応援したいわ」と話してくれました。また、本作のプロモーションで来日の可能性は？　とたずねたところ、「今はTVドラマ『ダメージ』の撮影が忙しすぎてほかに何もできないの」と話したグレン。「ダメージ」はグレンが主演を務める傑作法廷サスペンスで、現在放送中のドラマの中でも群を抜いて人気を集めているシリーズです。

グレンに主演女優賞ノミネートをもたらした『アルバート・ノッブス』は、アイルランド出身の小説家ジョージ・ムーアの短編を原作にした映画で、19世紀、仕事を見つけ自立した生活を送るため男性として生きた女性をグレンが演じています。私はまだ映画は観ていませんが、彼女の演技については多くの絶賛の声が寄せられています。1982年に上演された舞台版にも出演しており、15年をかけて映画化に漕ぎつけたグレンは、本作で主演のみならず共同脚本と共同プロデュースも手がけています。とにかくハリウッドで最も才能にあふれた、素晴らしい女優の一人である彼女の話を聞けたのは、この上ない喜びでした。

さらにもう一人、話を聞くことができたのはガールフレンドで元プロレスラーのステイシー・キーブラーをエスコートして現れたジョージ・クルーニーです。ジョージはいつも通りにほぼ全てのメディアの取材に応じ、ユーモアを効かせたトークで返していました。私もセレモニーに入る直前で彼をキャッチしましたが、ジョージは日本をどれだけ愛してるかを語ってくれました。さらに、受賞の自信を聞けば「こんなに“本物”の才能があふれた人が揃ってるんだから、それは起こらないだろうね」と一笑してましたが、みなさんもご存知の通り、彼は見事ドラマ部門で『ファミリー・ツリー』で主演男優賞を獲得しましたね。

映画から離れて、この日快挙を果たしていたのが、私の好きなTVドラマの一つである「ダウントン・アビー」。本国イギリスで大人気の本作は「2011年、最も高い評価を受けたTVドラマ」としてもギネス世界記録に認証されています。物語は、架空上の貴族・クローリー家と彼らに仕える召使たちの生活を描いており、第1エピソードはタイタニック号沈没のニュースから幕を開け、彼らが第二次世界大戦前と戦中を乗り越えていく姿が描かれます。マギー・スミス（『ハリー・ポッター』シリーズ）やエリザベス・マクガヴァーン（『タイタンの戦い』）ら素晴らしい女優たちも出演しているほか、今後注目の若手俳優もちらほら。昨年のエミー賞では6部門を獲得し、今回のゴールデン・グローブ賞ミニシリーズ・TVムービー部門で見事、作品賞に輝きました。

さて、レッドカーペットの話に戻ると、ほかの顔ぶれでいうとメラニー・グリフィンにダスティン・ホフマン、マドンナ、ジェラルド・バトラー、ジェレミー・アイアンズ、クレア・デインズと少しだけ話ができ、そして授賞式のテーマ曲を手がけた「X-JAPAN」のYOSHIKIとも素敵なインタビューを行うことができました。

全体を通して、とても素晴らしい一夜になりましたが、迫る本番、アカデミー賞に向けてこれからどんなドラマが繰り広げられるのか、楽しみですね！

Hi readers!! It is THAT time again...one of Hollywood's favorite time of the year...award season!!!
This past Sunday I had the opportunity to work with a Japanese tv station, doing the red carpet for the Golden Globes and I must say that it was a lot of fun!

First of all, the stars were DEFINITELY out!
During the 2 1/2 hour red carpet, I got to see SO many amazing celebrities, both from the big and the small screen.I got a great interview with Glenn Close, one of my favorite actresses, who was nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in the film "Albert Nobbs".
When I asked her what film she was rooting for at the Golden Globes, she said that even though She talked about how close the film "Albert Nobbs" was very close to her heart, and so of course she was supporting all the other fine films/tv shows and actors/actresses that were nominated. I then asked her if she would be heading to Japan sometime soon to promote her latest film, and she said that right now she is too busy with filming her television show, "Damages" to do anything else. Damages, by the way, is an excellent legal thriller/drama that Glenn Close stars in, and it is definitely one of the most exciting and well-done shows on television right now. (and one of my favorites!!)

Just a little info for all you readers..."Albert Nobbs" is based on a short novel by Irish novelist George Moore, and in the film Glenn Close plays a woman who is pretending to be a man in order to find work and survive in the 19th century.I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have heard only brilliant things about her performance in the film.She was originally in the "Albert Nobbs" stage production in 1982, and since then has spent 15 years trying to turn it into a film.Glenn Close is not only the lead character in the film, but she also co-wrote the script as well as being a co-producer.
It was such a wonderful pleasure interviewing her because I find her to be one of the most talented and most gracious actresses in Hollywood.

I also had the opportunity to speak a bit with the very gracious George Clooney, who was with his latest girlfriend, former WWE wrestler, Stacy Keibler. As in usual George Clooney fashion, he stopped at almost every media outlet and answered their questions, adding his unique sense of humor to the interviews.
I managed to get ahold of him right before he had to go inside for the ceremony and he talked about how much he loved Japan and when I asked him if he thought he would "get lucky and win a Golden Globe", he laughed it off and said "I don't see that happening with all the REAL talent in the room". But as we all know, he DID win for Best Actor in Drama for the film "The Descendants".

Another big winner at the Golden Globes on Sunday was one of my current favorite tv shows, "Downton Abbey", which is a British period drama, which was recently named by the Guiness Book of World Records as the "most critically acclaimed English-language television show" for the year. The show follows the lives of the fictional aristocratic family, the Crawleys and their servants, and the first episode starts with the news of the sinking of the Titanic (the family knew people on the ship) and goes on to cover life before and during World War II. Such wonderful actresses as Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern are in the tv show, as well as some new talent that I am sure we will be seeing much more of!
The show won SIX Emmys last year, and then this past weekend it picked up a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film.

Some other celebrities that I got a chance to talk with very briefly include Melanie Griffin, Dustin Hoffman, Madonna, Gerald Butler, Jeremy Irons, Claire Danes, and we also had a wonderful interview with Yoshiki (from X Japan) who composed the theme song for the Golden Globes this year.
All in all, it was a wonderful night and I don't know about you, but I am VERY excited to see how things progress as we get closer to the Academy Awards!!!
